Re: Mixing fuel

When I flew slimers I bought my methanol by the 45 gal drum. I would suggest that if you plan to buy in bulk you should get it from a chemicals dealer. You'll find them in the yellow pages. Some methanol from hardware stores is not as pure as others. And importantly, this stuff must not have access to the moisture in the air. Keep it sealed well.

I also had access to used turbine engine oil, probably the best stuff there is anywhere. If you live near an airport, you might approach the FBO or repair shop to see if they can save it for you. This is good flying on the cheap. Doesn't get any better than that, especially when you get to the bigger engines like I was flying, [ST 3000's+] I also used it in my 60-90 sized European made engines.

In the big engines I used 10% oil but found that this oil was so good that 60 size liked it too. Tex.
