Dihedral

Hello again guys and gals, I'm about to do the wing joining of my Goldberg J-3 Anniversary Cub. I come to you with a question about dihedral. Do I need it? I've had great success of flying planes with out it such as my mini ultra stick, my slick 3d and even my TaylorCraft. Could I just get rid of it entirely with this build? I know I would lose some of the minor self righting of the plane and maybe even the scale look, of which I have abandoned completely.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Jeff

Re: Dihedral

I've done away with it on all my planes. But I don't fly scale. You'll lose the self righting of the plane but I've had several planes the same and found the ones without the dihedral flew better. Plus if you know how to fly most planes don't need it, especially a Cub. Hope you built a clipped wing version, if not build a second wing. You'll enjoy the plane so much more. I've flown both wings. Cheers Floyd

Re: Dihedral

The full size J3 aircraft has very little dihedral. If you are flying an aircraft without ailerons then dihedral is a necessity. Having a little dihedral in a low wing sport plane can make it a lot more stable. Outside loops and dihedral are not friends.
