help transponders?

bear with me on this, my boys and mysef are new to all this. a transponder mounts in side your car or truck and every time you cross the start line it records that you did a lap? now is there a box on the start line the records how many times you car went passed? what im asking does it record that car 1 shows 5 laps car 2 did 4 laps and car 3 did 2 laps, so car one would be first? now the reason im asking is we have been looking at personal transponders--amb new about $100.00 use $50.00 and up. ptx personal transponders about 1/2 the price of a new amb. so will all transponders work with the recording box on the side of the track? if we have got this all wrong can some one tell us how these transponders work?

thanks peter

most tracks use the amb transponder system. A transponder sends out a signal and at the start line, a wire loop is buried... you will the race announcer state stuff like "the loop is live" meaning the laps are now being counted.

every time you cross the loop, a lap is recorded within 1/1000 of a second. it keeps track of your lap times, how many laps etc. qualifiers are run, to determine your placement on the starting grid in the mains.in the event there are more than say 10 people in a class, it will also seperate the racers into a and b mains and down

there are personal transponders that you can buy and it has a certain number assigned to it. once entered into the computer system, it will remember you. the nice thin about a personal is it is small and fits just about anywhere on the car, and you don't have to pull it out and return it after every qualifier or race. the power for these is supplied by plugging into a spare slot on your receiver.
hand outs are available at most tracks as well. these are a rechargeable type that must be returned after each run and put in the charging rack. they are a little larger and with some vehicles, you have to cut a hole in the windshield about the size of a body post and use a body clip to secure it.

there are other systems out that are strictly for individual lap counting and won't work with race systems. check with the local track as to the type of system they run, but 99% will be using the amb type. most will be running rc scoring pro software and if not autoscore.

trakmate is a local company here that makes an inexpensive system that uses infra red sensors and you have to drive under a bridge and the transponder has to have a clear view through the windshield. we used this system for micro racing.

we have read about amb and ptx personal transponders, can both be used with rc scoring pro and autoscore?
