A well engineered model will be both light AND strong regardless of the material it is made of.

I have the equivalent of your PT 20 in another brand(.25 size)and at 63" span and 50" length it weighs just under 3 lbs. I fly it regularly in winds up to 40 km/hr, above that it's a bit sketchy.
Good point...

I had an Eaglet 25 and it flew similar to my current PT20.

After a bad front end crash, I didn't bother rebuilding the fuselage. Instead, I got a piece pine moulding from Lansing/Home Depot, built a small box to house the electronics. The power to weight ratio changed significantly that it could climb vertically without much effort.

Re: Great Planes PT-40 Prop recommendations

Thank you all for your input. I have gone an purchased a couple props and gonna give that a try. I got a 10.5x6 and an 11x5 prop. My LHS did not have any 12" props. So I will give these a try and see what happens. If not I have to wait till I make it to the city or order some online. Hoping that this Saturday I can get out and fly. Weather has been rotten and now when it's nice I am working afternoons. LOL Will keep you informed.

Right on the money Curt! That is my all time favorite .40 powered trainer prop! I didn't mention it as I didn't think it would be very easy to find. It was originally designed for .35 size CL engines and really isn't enough load for the new .46 to .55 engines but guys do use them on the bigger ones.

Yeah, I have a couple in the flight box at all times Merv, use them on my fun fly .46 and .55 OS engines......slow the planes down great.

You could also use the stock prop that comes with the Hobbico NexStar trainer. The stock engine is the OS .46 FXI and this prop makes that trainer a real pussycat.

Re: Great Planes PT-40 Prop recommendations

APC use to make an 11.5 x 4 too but I haven't been able to find one for quite a few years. Worked very nicely on the older lower power .35 and .40 loop scavenged engines.

I have a few 46's and run APC 11x5's on all of them. For slowing down you want less pitch and not more.
Give APC a try and you might end up using MA to stir your paint.

Any MA prop that comes my way gets immediately relegated to the "epoxy stir stick" box!! Prop technology has left them 25 years back!
