Any brushed 55T motor is a good starting point and an ESC that has a good drag break. I use the Novak brushed crawler rooster ESC but its pretty expensive at about $100.00. The Castle Creations 1/18 Micro Sidewinder works GREAT with 55T brushed motors and is fully programable through your PC. It costs about $60.00

You can run a 21.5 or 25.5 brushless. Like Nick said, novak and tekin have some good combos.

I am running a 55T brushed motor in a Honcho and for the cost of them $20 for the motor i don't mind screwing them up in the water and snow.. not sure if going to brushless would be that much benifical in a crawler, unless going sensored to for a slightly smoother take off.

Here is a semi crappy video of my crawler... Running the Traxxas XL5 ESC ( waterproof ) and the 55T Axial motor so you can see the speed it has on a standard 6 cell nimh. I do plan on going with a new ESC something so i can run LIPO with LVC and have some brake drag. BUt will be using the XL5 through out the winter and when playing in the mud
