Re: plan on making a dump trailer
Ball and Acme screws start @ 25lbs. You could dump a load of lead with those.

Re: plan on making a dump trailer
I'm looking at the Firgelli L12 50 mm actuator. It's about $100 CAD shipped.

Re: plan on making a dump trailer
So 23 Newtons is about 5 pounds. Depending on geometry you won't be able to lift a whole lot.
Do you actually want to dump heavy stuff or just make the trailer?

Re: plan on making a dump trailer
That's the nice thing about the different line-ups of those type of acutators, lots of choices. I guess the ones with the bigger ratios and more umph will go slower, but so what, you don't want it slamming to the top anyway.
Just curious, you still never answered if you plan to dump loads or just for show. If you want to lift any weight I wonder if even the 10 pound or so actuator will be enough since generally they are set up so the geometry puts them on the short end of the lever, if you will, and on the actuator end you need force in the multiples of the weight you are llifting that equals the offset of the lever arms. One other design of dump trailer I have seen in the real world had the hydraulic cylinder standing vertical at the front of the box and had several collapsing sections (like and old 72mhz aerial). With that design you would only really need an actuator that produces a bit less than the total weight of box and contents since it would not actually lift the whole thing and you would not have the "short end of the lever" scenario to deal with. I guess it depends on how you want it to look and whether you wanted to try and disguise a long travel actuator inside some sort of telescopic sections.

Re: plan on making a dump trailer
Yeah I do want to use it to move around some dirt.. I'm going to do some drawings and see how I can mount the actuator. What I'm going to do is figure out how big I want to make my box, find a Tupperware the same size and fill it with dirt so I can weight it. Form there I can see how I can mount it. Hopefully it works out
