According to the new Transport Canada regulation for model aircrafts you are only allowed a 90meter max altitude Can you run a glider competition with adhering to that rule?
Let me get some input

Re: Maximum Altitude

I was wondering the same thing after reading the new rules.
Not much fun flying a glider a couple hundred feet off the ground

Re: Maximum Altitude

Model flying within MAAC sanctioned fields is exempt from the altitude restriction.

Not exactly! While there is no one fixed ceiling, MAAC defines or advises some altitude limits in this advisory doc!

Re: Maximum Altitude

MAAC. Map 1 has some very good common sense guidelines . Just a suggestion here: wonder if anyone contacted Nav Canada at nearest airport and arrange to have a notam published To the effect to avoid a specific area as saying a glider event is taking place on specific dates and an minimum altitude of overflying aircraft to be say 1000 feet above maximum expected glider altitude. At least contact them for any available guidelins they may be able to work with. Called communication . Won't likely work if held near busy airports and near the 9 km limit......would have to be further out but at least look at the big picture to see if it might work. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Re: Maximum Altitude

The new rules do not apply to "MAAC sanctioned fields or events". If you're at a MAAC sanctioned club field, it's business as usual.

An issue arises if you fly a sailplane anywhere else, meaning outside the defined perimeter of a club field, or at a private field for example. Then you fall onto the new TC rules.

I am trying to clarify with MAAC whether a MAAC member can submit an event sanction request to a non-club-related field.

Will MAAC sanction a glider cross country event?

And how about slope soaring on Crown land?

Re: Maximum Altitude

Cross country has been tough to sanction for as long as I can remember.

I know one club that certainly did have 'registered club fields' that were slopes on crown land. Permission is implied on crown land.
