Combat...New to our club

Hi Guys, we are going to try combat this season and this is the first plane that got completed. We have 4 spads on the build ,but wanted to try some different configurations. this plane is 48" ws. flat bottomed wing (4mm bottom,2mm top), coro fuse, V-tail. .40 la. and it is a machine . this is our first experiance with a plane that responds as quickly as this. WOW..... and I mean WOW.... what a rush. we had a blast flying his plane.

three more will be ready soon. the season starts in a few weeks..... cant wait.

Looks great Harry... is that a devastator or a modified demon, or your own design?

There's no denying that combat is some of the most fun you can have in R/C! and it's a great activity to get club members out and flying!

If you need any info as you get up and running, check out the MAAC RC Combat pages at:

www.aircombat.ca/rccombat

Takes some pictures of your scrambles and your pilots and send 'em in to the web site!

Thanks for the Comments Dave. I have checked out the Maac combat site.
Lots of good info there. As for the plane it is a cross between, the devastater, the saturday night special, and a couple of our own Ideas.

But what a hoot to fly and still very stable in slow flight(glides really well).

Power Plant changes!

Hey the Guys in the Ottawa area have been flying those birds for the last 3-4 seasons and almost everyone has switched down to Class B engine size with the powerful OS .25 FX's The engine puts out more power than most .40's and is lighter . Anytime you reduce the wingloading on a SPAD you get better performance!

Great fun with SPAD!

After you build your first one or maybe 2 you simply want to try your own thing! This is my Coro F-15 Fly quite fast! and really groves around nicely

Spads do have one advantage over "real" balsa planes. But midairs are half the fun. Good Luck.

Hi Guys, I finished my combat spad this morning.
So here it is
This has a 48" ws(symetrical,10.5" at the tip and 14.5 at the root, the spar is 3/4" at the tips and 1.25" at the center).
the V-Tail is set at 45 degrees
30" coro fuse
and a royal .40

Jerome and I went out and wrang them out. the only difference between the flat bottom and the symetrical wing is that the symetrical will perform the inverted maneuvers better, the 45degree vtail isn't as pitch sensitive as the 30 degree

Hey Spadhawk,

I noticed from your picture that you appear to have two servos for the V tail. Why is that? Do you have some kind of channel mixing set up for the v tail?

I just came up from the shop after having just finished my first combat SPAD, a Dogfighter II with a Thunder Tiger .25 engine. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Can someone please tell me what would be a good prop for this plane/engine combination. Its been quite awhile since I will have flown anything with this small of an engine. Thanks!
