Rebuild after being shot down

Last summer at a scale event, the 1/3 Sopwith pup I was flying, had the misfortune of tangling with an enemy aircraft from the Sukhoi 68 squadron , German fleet, I was shot down over enemy territory, and had the misfortune , of ending up in the Rhine river, about 8 feet deep ,, water bottom area,, With now sweep back wings and extensive body damage , a friendly passer by coalition ship came by to make a rescue, Once a shore, with pilot surviving the crash,, still strapped in the cockpit, the british maintenance crew ,,surveyed the damage and decided to resurrect the once graceful Sopwith Pup... it was a winter project,, the brits came together and here is the.results, with new paint scheme and all,So look out with that new Fokker DV11,,,WITH MACHINE GUNS ABLAZING,,,,,,,,LOL .

Actual cause of crash was a 4-40 rod breaking, from tiller bar connected to elevator pull, pull set up,,, after 18 years of service,, Thinking of getting warranty on the 4-40 rod?????

Re: Rebuild after being shot down

A good point here for sure. The 4-40 rod a solder joint were rusted from 18 years of hot/cold condensation etc. Check your linkages on a regular basis!!

Re: Rebuild after being shot down

Beautiful. Another "Dawn Patrol" member ready for squadron service.

Still, wondering about what looks like a ring gear bolted to the firewall.

As a former owner of this aircraft, and friend of the builder, I can tell you that the piece of pumpjack ring gear is needed for nose weight. Also, the BCM muffler was custom built for me by Jim Bisson to my own drawings(thanks again, Jim). I bought the Pup from the builder around 1997, sold it to a friend a couple years later, and he then sold it to Ron. I'm happy to see it in such good shape all these years later. Nice work, Ron!

Re: Rebuild after being shot down

That's why the "Custom Muffler" in the name , right ? In years past when I ran my hobby shop , many times the Bisson's came through with real "custom mufflers" for my customers and at a descent price.
