If you bomb out with the Flying Models and Pilot plans on the lake, here's something else you might try.

Uncle Willies has electronic file versions of the Berkeley Colonial Skimmer - which evolved into the Lake Buccaneer.

He shows bulkheads, which you could easily scale.

Re: Lake Buccaneer

Sorry to be so tardy responding.

I too have the original plans, which came with the kit, but the bulkheads are not shown.

I think the kit was started, then forgotten, as none of the blkhds are in the box. Same with the engine pylon parts.

Have a look to see if there is bllkhd views. That's what i need.

Tia,

Alan

Re: Lake Buccaneer

Alan,

This is some serious stuff going on here! That Pilot kit holds a place in my heart (sorry for getting mushy) from when I was new at the hobby (when the kit was new in the early 80's) and obsessing about water based models (as I still do now). The other one was the Berkley Navigator, which I flew for years and hope to strip and recover this winter. I really hope you get that Bucaneer together as I'd really like to see it flying.

I've seen threads on that model elsewhere (in the float flying section I think) and the consensus is that it builds heavy. Keep that in mind and save weight wherever you can.

Re: Lake Buccaneer

Thanks Rob. Having a heck of a time trying to 'complete' the kit. Have to try some scratch building I suppose.

Re: Lake Buccaneer

I built the Lake Buccaneer by Pilot many years ago. It was pretty but had many drawbacks. It was very heavy as I recall due to the extensive use of plywood and severe overengineering. The pylon alone weighed as much as a lot of planes the same size ( slight exageration there ). There was no room in the pylon for more than a four oz. tank and no room in the cowling for more than a thirty size engine. The one thing that I remember fondly was the accuracy and neatness of the laser cut plywood that pilot was famous for.
