fixed landing gear
I am trying to buy a fixed gear for a Citabria 80 " span was a midwest kit wich i had the plans to scratch build from . Trouble is that although places like Towers , Great planes , great hobbies & the hobby stores have many listed which i am sure one would fit --- nobody gives the dimensions of the gear . measurements are ---
14" spread between the wheels--- 4 " deep from fuse down to the axles & 5-1/2 " across the fuse where it bolts on , Found a nice f/glass goldberg for a 40 size model had the spread & depth down perfect , but the across fuse only 3 + " , Can anyone help with where to get the size i want ? was given a place in Ohio that custom makes them , but big bucks for a custom made one + dollar exchange & wait time as well . I feel this is a regular standard size , can't believe how difficult it is , these stores won't be bothered to go & measure a gear for me . thanks guys Hurri |

Here's a link to Tower's site where the dimensions are given for the DuBro plastic rear, right in the listing: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNM65&P=7 Same thing for a Goldberg gear: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHBP8&P=7 Same thing for a Great Planes gear: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJ925&P=7 There are lots more. Unless your internet browser is boken, you'll find all the info readily available. All you need do is look. I know that it's easier to have someone else do the homework. But they are likely to just give you any old info, even if it's wrong, just to get rid of you. |

Re: fixed landing gear
thanks DO335 , did look at them before posting . the Dubro one is only 3" across fuse & curled legs not straight ones . the goldberg did see at hobby store , it is good all measurements except again only 3-7/16 across fuse . the great planes 90 size is huge way too big . Could cut the the goldberg one in middle of the 3-7/16 length & bolt good to the ply base , don't know that it would hold there . so still looking thanks . Hurri

Re: fixed landing gear
If you get desperate I could make you one from 3/32 or 1/8 thick 6061 T6 aluminum. It would be to your exact sizes.
I will not mention a price here in case this post is considered commercial and removed. Suffice it to say it will not cost much more than a hobby store item. Ed S |

Re: fixed landing gear
thanks ED , let me sit on it for a few days as the hobby store i use say they had a shipment of different one s just come in & will check when they have time , I scratch built the Citabria from midwest plans , was given a used gear , but it is too soft I even made a piece of 5/32 music wire with "J" bolts going around the gear shape , but after a few flts the end near the axle bends , think Midwest as far as planes are no more , model is 9lbs 81 " span-- 90 4/s ;
think 1/8th would be best = it is 14 " between axles 4-1/2 " under fuse to axles centre 5-1/2 " across fuse & 2 " plan view where it bolts on . could send a sketch if you want . so sounds good , thanks very much for offer , will let you know one way or the other in a few days , e/ml is al.horner@sympatico.ca |
