lost signal twice with spektrum DX7 and AR6200 receiver

Does anyone know of issues with the above spektrum setup. I have lost two planes now where as I turn base leg, i lose reception.

One of the stores here suggested that it's possible that there is a dip in voltage and that resets the receivers. Spektrum has a capacitor that you can plug in to one of the spare receiver slots specifically to deal with this ... interesting.

Re: lost signal twice with spektrum DX7 and AR6200 receiver

If you have one of the older receivers they had an issue with brown outs and reconnect. It would take 2-3 seconds to reconnect instead of it being immediate. A new firmware upgrade makes the reconnect instantaneous. The capacitor prevents it from happening at all.

I always suggest that if you have high powered servos to use something like a duralite system with regulator.

Were you pointing the antenna straight at the plane? I was doing a range check and discovered that the signal is lost if the antenna is pointing straight at the plane. I now make sure that the antenna is pointing to the side to hopefully avoid this.

Been told by an "electron" flyer that the antenna should be pointed straight up (not to the side or straight ahead).

He couldn't tell me why but maybe for this reason: it's highly unlikely that the plane will EVER be directly above you but the chances are good that it will be to your left/right on final and your body/radio might be turned such that the antenna will then point directly at the landing plane.

baaaaaaaaaad thing to do.

The antenna is the Z axis

From what I understand, antennas work best with the signal to the side. This is also a reason why you should not point the tx antenna directly at the RC.

Re: lost signal twice with spektrum DX7 and AR6200 receiver

I lost 2 planes last year. The problem was traced to NiMh batteries ( 5 cell ) that had high internal resistance. Any high use of the digital servos, like at the bottom of a loop would cause the rx to re boot. ( one of the old ones ) 2 seconds is an eternity when you are trying to pull up from a loop.
I switched to NiCd ( 5 cell ) and LiFe ( 2 cell ) batteries and have never had another problem ..
You didn't mention what receiver you are using ? The AR6200 is probably the most popular and has worked well for me.

Re: lost signal twice with spektrum DX7 and AR6200 receiver

I have a new AR 6200. I am told it's the latest firmware with the shorter re-bind time.

My servos are stock DS821's so not hi torque or anything like that.

I usually fly with the antenna straight up.

My main receiver was placed right at the bottom of the plane next to the battery, and a lot of wires over the receiver. I have been told to lift the main receiver clear of everything which I am going to do.

I also bought the capacitor which i will add. I am also going to test my battery to see that there are no bad cells

And then give it another go.

If I lose this plane again I am going to totally freak out

Thanks all
Jack

Hi Jack, I have had the same issue with my DX7 and the v1.6 AR6200. I had several 'brown outs' and came close to losing a few planes. I have since sold all my AR6200's and am running AR7000's without an issue. What type of plane are you flying?
