Another RC plane to identify

I picked this plane up at the KW Scale Rally a couple of years ago and finally decided it was overdue for some use. It came from the estate of Doug Hillier, long time member of Bramalea Radio Control Fliers.

I have no idea if he built it, if it was a kit or his own design, or anything. All I know is all it needed was an engine and a receiver to make it ready to go. ("So why did it hang from the ceiling for so long?" you ask.)

In any case, if it jogs any gray cells, I would appreciate knowing. I always like to be able to give a name to things. So far I'm calling it "The SKIBOO" because that's what's on the wing!

Thanks in advance

Re: Another RC plane to identify

You know, I even wonder if that is the right wing for the fusilage! The wing chord is deeper than the space between the front and rear dowels the rubber bands are supposed to go onto. The only things correct are the colours, and the fact that the aileron servo lead comes down pretty close to where the hole is cut in the fuseilage to connect it to the receiver.

I actually had it out to the field today and flew it. the first attempt was almost disasterous as it did not want to go straigt and level, banking hard left. I got it down by chopping the throttle before it got too crazy and pulling full right on the ailerons, bending the right side gear somehow.

We straightened it out, adjusted the aileron linkage to give more throw, and messed with the rudder trim a bit and tried again. I got it up and it seemed like it had a mind of its own and was headed for suicide in some trees, but I cut the throttle back and lo, I had better control! So, I found it flew not too badly at 1/2 throttle and once I got used to it I could fly it at full, but it wants to climb like crazy at higher throttle, probably due to the parasol wing.

I need to swap out the tiny wheels for something bigger and put an 11x6 prop on instead of the 10x6 it now has. Also perhaps some down thrust on the engine and maybe some weight in the front as it seems to be a tad tail heavy.

Once I get the gremlins exorcised, it should be a pretty good plane.

In the mean time it is identified on my transmitter as "SKIBOO"

Re: Another RC plane to identify

The tail and the wing looks similar to the Falcon 56.

Re: Another RC plane to identify

Try a 1/4" shim under the back edge of the wing. And maybe a 12/4 prop.

I just might do that! Good suggestion.
Thanks.

Re: Another RC plane to identify

I had a small plane once with a flat bottom wing that I grossly over powered & at full throttle & full down elevator an take off it would do a tight loop & almost take my hat off!

A 1/4" shim & a 10/3 prop tamed it right down!

The faster a flat bottom wing goes the more it pitches up!
