Dynam PBY Catalina
Ok so I picked this up as I have read a lot about it down south and everyone seems to enjoy it so I thought I would get one. I didn't see anything on RCC about it so I'm posting it here. I am also looking at winter flying this as guys have said its great for that and being were we live I figure I can fly all year round without going south. I have also posted that i am looking for some scale coloured photos of the Catalina in RCAF/RAF of some type as I would love to change up the colour.
I had this put together in about 1 hour so there is no real building so it works great for me at this time in my life. I haven't glued any of it together just did a dry fit of parts to get a feel for the size. I'm very empressed but don't know how the motor/controllers are as I have to change to my contectors that I use to match with my battery packs. Let me know what you think or if you have one and what you have found as to likes a dislikes about the plane. These are the specs from SN Hobbies were I bought the plane. Will post photos of the plane as it sits down in the shop. Thanks, John Dynam has produced something very unique this time, the PBY Catalina seaplane. Months of flight testing and design yield an aircraft that is super stable and capable of maintaining flight at super slow speeds that allows beginners to advanced pilots to fly this sea plane with ease. High quality scale detail and a large 55 inch winspan make this an attention grabbing model. And pleny of power is provided by the twin 1100KV motors and tri bladed props. Key Features: Powerful twin 480 size (1100kv) outrunner brushless power system w/ 3-bladed props Twin 30A Brushless ESC with Switch-Mode BEC Durable and lightweight EPO construction with many surface details Excellent Flight Performance Detailed Body Structure Suitable for Both Intermediate and Experienced Pilots. Removable / detachable wing. (4 screws) Specs: Wingspan: 58 inches / 1470mm Overall Length: 37 inches / 940mm Flying Weight: 45oz / 1275 w/Battery Motor Size: Twin 480 size (1100kv) outrunner brushless motors (installed) Radio: 4+ channel (not included) Servos: 4 x 9g Servos installed Speed Control : Twin Dynam Pro 30A Brushless with Switch-Mode BEC (installed) Recommended Battery: 3S 11.1V 2200 30C (not included) Flight Times Average (8-10 mins) Assembly Time 35min

Re: Dynam PBY Catalina
Hello Bill and glad to be back as I haven't done much but sell off some planes this past season. I just put my EC3 connectors on the PBY so I'm going to see how it runs up in a few min's. This one is stock setup with 480 brushless motors direct drive with scale 3 bladed props. I just figured with winter coming up and all those farm fields around here this will make into a great snow flyer and get me back into doing this great sport as I did miss flying a lot. Talk soon, John
Found these photos on the net today.

Re: Dynam PBY Catalina
WOW! just ran up the motors and forgot to remove a couple things off the table so the prop blast did it for me LOL. This thing will have no problem getting off the water and I believe it may be possable to get off damp grass if I do that. I will have to run the numbers to see just what I'm getting but I am impressed with the power and as long as I'm not over amping everything its going to be great. John

Re: Dynam PBY Catalina
The Catalina, any Catalina, has a presence in the air that goes far beyond its size. I have an Electrifly and when I fly it at the lake my mouth is open most of the time.
Enjoy! |

Re: Dynam PBY Catalina
Good day I have been watching of the build & flying of the Nitro Dynam Catalina on another group. I purchased mine about 2 1/2 months ago when I saw that Nitro had finally got them in. Orion Pax is the guy who started the thread over there with a tremendous amount of people who bought them when they finally got stock o n them. There about 111 pages in that thread with lots of fabulous information. Some of the people have changed the wing tip floats over to retractable there was also talk about putting a set retracts for the wheels as well. There is lots of photos from different people and there paint schemes. Take a look I
