Re: WTK-Which Radio you use?
Been flying a Turnigy 9XR since January with the FrSky module and the Orange Spektrum module (for my helis). Started with open9x but ultimately swapped the firmware for er9x. Have not had a single glitch and at considerable $$$ savings.
May consider a FrSky Taranis next winter after the reviews of it are in. $49 vs $269 ... Hmmm? $5 for the programmer cable ... a deal. |

Futaba 8FG Super, although I'm seriously considering selling it for the 14SGH

Re: WTK-Which Radio you use?
That's a matter of opinion. Personally, I would rather use a receiver manufactured by the company that makes the transmitter rather than a "licensed" clone or worse yet, unlicensed knock off.... especially when I have thousands of dollars up in the air. Staying matched, I don't see a whole lot in price differences. Using clones, yes, a bit cheaper. Yes, I know people use them every day with success, but again, matter of opinion, Chev/Ford, Coke/Pepsi, everyone has their choices.
Kind of reminds me of the computer debate, Intel or AMD. I prefer an Intel because I can run it on a matched Intel chipset. Didn't have a problem with AMD until they got out of the chipset business and VIA took over. I wouldn't power a wrist watch on a VIA chip.

Re: WTK-Which Radio you use?
The Taranis just previewed at Toledo. FrSky has just posted a starter page on their main web site. Some of the other information is out there on other forums. At this time there is some conflicting specs but that is quite normal. All the buzz was that FrSky is built in, but the pictures show a DJT module plugged in. The specs are for 16 channel radio, with telemetry, multiple receiver modes, and under $175.
There are detailed instructions on how to make FrSky telemetry come up on the 9X or 9XR ... which is why I will wait and watch the Taranis rather than hacking it. My other radio ... a Kraft Series'79 7CS modified to 2.4 gHz. |
