Re: Install of YS140L - type of engine mount
Get the Hyde mount. Best mounts I've ever used, never had one fail even after thousands of flights.
Contact www.centralhobbies.com for Hyde mounts and YS parts should you need any. You'll need the one with the nose ring for a Yak, so you want part number HCMO140ARI They are expensive at $189 but you'll never have to buy another mount for that engine and it will save your airframe and servo's bigtime. I've never used the MKIII type C mounts, they are substantially less money I see though. I would trust Hyde mounts regardless of what model they are, but for the investment of a YS140, all your servo's etc, I'd buy the ARI personally |

Re: Install of YS140L - type of engine mount
Hi LGM,
Thanks for the info; Question: why should I use a nose ring....looking at the config. of the Yak's fiberglass cowl, I was concerned that the cowl might not be able to take the vibration from the engine.....I don't know what type of vibration might come from the engine......any help here would be useful. Yeah, cost wise the Hyde mounts are expensive. For a less expensive option, are mounts such as Dubro's 120 size or Gator 120-170 unit any good ? Thanks....Dave |

Re: Install of YS140L - type of engine mount
The design of a hyde mount requires the nose ring to keep the front of the engine from bouncing around wildly. If you look at the other style mounts, the rubber isolators are on the beams instead of on the back of the mount. This means that the engine can really only torque back and forth and the up and down vibration is already controlled.
I wouldn't run a Dubro soft mount in anything anymore, I ran a couple years ago and they almost seemed to create more vibration. Most of the beam style mounts seem to almost enhance the vibration, it probably does dampen it, but it makes it seem worse. The Hyde mounts are just plain smooth. I think that Nedim Bek out of Calgary makes a Hyde style mount and I know that Harry Ells made Hyde mount copies at one time, they worked well for much less money but as for longevity, I don't know, never heard of a problem but they haven't had the test of time that the hyde mounts have. There has never been a reported failure of a Hyde mount as far as I am aware. |

Re: Install of YS140L - type of engine mount
As Jeremy said get a Hyde. The ARI mounts have nose rings integrated into the mount so you dont have to mount it separately. This is the only way to go on a glass cowl motor
The dubro/MK/Dave brown etc. were all made for the 120 era motors, the 140L will eat the isolators in a short time and you will have to keep replacing them. Here is the link where to buy, I think this is the one you want, HCMY140ARI http://centralhobbies.com/Engines/mounts/hydmnts.html |

Re: Install of YS140L - type of engine mount
Thanks CAN733 ( Chad )
You really 'hit it on the head' when you stated that the nose mount is integral to the engine mount and not a separate nose ring which needs to be mounted in the cowl. It was my understanding that the nose ring and main engine mount were separate....therefore the concern for not to mount to the cowl which would probably have torn the cowl apart. It is interesting that of all the discussions I have had re. Hyde mounts the subject of the integral mount never came up.... Thanks again...the cost is substantial but as Jeremy said ...buy a Hyde and you will never need to but another engine mount. Dave |
