keep the blackflies and horse flys away!

The bugs can be very annoying to swat at when we fly! A friend showed me this trick, and I thought he was crazy untill I tried it.
Find a 'Blue' solo cup, or any blue cup. Smear it with sticky goo to catch the flies (we use Tanglefoot) Put it on top of your head. Tape it on, make a chin strap, whatever.
People will look at you funny and call you a dork, but the blackflies and horse flies will swarm this cup instead of your face! There is some sort of science behind the blue and the fact its the highest point of your body. It wont keep mosquitoes or noseeums away however.
Give it a try! Im not joking, it does work!

I've seen him wear it and it seems to attract the black flies and deer flies, I think it draws them away from me when we are flying, so good job Nate!!

Re: keep the blackflies and horse flys away!

So, I guess the honey-dipped sweat pants didn't work out?

When our daughter and grandson lived in Yellowknife I joked one way to get rid of all the flies and mosquitoes would be to plant rows of used windshields in the ground.

I know from experience bugs like to find them, especially right in the middle of the drivers side..............

ps. All joking aside, back when we were heli spraying near Thunder Bay I was the least bothered as I had orange coveralls. All the others with dark blue were eaten alive. I guess to a moose fly they looked like dinner, where I simply confused them, (continuing the tradition my wife gave me years ago).

Re: keep the blackflies and horse flys away!

you guys should try one of these out...

My neighbor's brother would always talk about how good his worked for over a year before I decided to try one out myself last year...IT WORKS!!!

It's pretty awesome how well it works actually, I watch others get bitten alive at the field while I'm like "what bugs" ahaha...

Love the creativity!

Not to kill the mood, but you can get bug strips from Bass Pro that stick on the back of your hat. My folks do a lot of kayaking around marshy areas, the bugs go for the hat instead of the ankles. They come back with enough fish bait for a day of fishing.

Re: keep the blackflies and horse flys away!

Bounce dryer sheets also keep bugs and especially bees away. Just tuck them in your pockets.
You can even skip deodorant if you like.
