Suggestions for a Guide Book on Reading Plans and Building

Any suggestions on a book or something (please don't say years of experience) that gives tips and ideas on how to read a plan and build a plane step by step. I can read a plan and follow it to a certain extent but without a Instruction book I just don't know where to begin and go from there kind of thing.

Thanks
RICH

Try browsing the Model Airplane News and Trapplet website bookstores.

I wish I could recomment a particular book, but I can't. I have actually found magazines and websites more useful. I have piles of print-outs and mags.

Though I'd suggest you sample the mags first. I find most of the US mags focus on ARFs and are incredibly uncritical in their reviews - might as well be reading press releases from the manufacturers. I like(d) Scale International from the UK, but I just got a notice that they're going belly-up. Sigh.

Sigh... a dying art that used to be passed on from modeller to modeller at club meetings (when they used to be about modelling instead of politics and ARF beauty contests).

I haven't read them myself but, I hear the Harry Higley Series of books are quite good.

plans

I would agree with Derek, that some websites are great for information, and there are endless links to go through, there is one that has been very helpfull to me, and that is www.airfieldmodels.com, he has replied to several questions that I have had, plus if you ever get stuck, just ask here on this site, and you will allways get help.I really enjoy the building part of this hobby, and there is so much information on the web, you will be able to find more than in any one book, Good luck,,,Josef,,,

I have the Getting Airborne series (2 vols. I believe). OK, but the book actually builds a particular model. Some of what you learn is model- or kit-specific.

Good place to start though, and hardly expensive.

And don't forget this website. If you have a fairly specific question and are looking for a dozen very definitive and different answers , this is the spot.
