It was cheaper to buy the 5 pack then a single unit. It is always good to have spares and I may decide to build more quads.

I see the link mentions they now make it with a 4S port as well, but they also warn you to check your video equipment to make sure it will handle the voltage.

So it would indicate that all it does is filter. It would be nice if they incorporated a selectable voltage regulator into the device as well, so that guys like me can have the benefit of a filtered power source AND drop it down to 6V for hardware that is 6V instead of 12V.
That would be nice, but it would add some weight if they did. This is a good light weight filter solution (over a DYI one). You could plug in less of your balance ports to regulate the voltage that way, but you'd be unbalancing your cells, so that's probably not a good idea (not that you couldn't balance them again). Most FPV cameras/transmitters offer a wide range of input voltages now, and the immersionRC 5.8 TX has a 5v power output built in for that reason.

Re: 250 quad build with questions

I decided to hold off adding any fpv gear to my first quad build so I can concentrate on tuning the quad and not damage any fpv components. To the best of my knowledge I have the motors rotating as per the Acro Naze32 instructions, standard and right props correctly installed, throttle end points set, esc sync`d so the motors start up at the same time, and the motors connected to the FC in the correct order. I am powering the quad with a 1300mah 3S lipo. When I slowly throttle up I have to go past 1/2 throttle to get any lift and just when it starts to lift is flips over. Do I need to throttle up quicker or should it lift off the ground without flipping no matter how quick I throttle up? What should I check to get past the flipping?

Re: 250 quad build with questions

Try these first

1. Motors aren't spinning in the right direction.
2. A Channel is reversed

For the motors, double check that you're using QuadCopter-X vs QuadCopter-Plus... then triple check that the motors are spinning the right direction.

For channels, tip it while holding to verify that its compensating in the right direction.. then check the sticks to see that that motors are responding correctly.

Re: 250 quad build with questions

I set up the quad based on QuadCopter-X.

M4 M2

M3 M1

Tomorrow I will check how the motors respond to stick commands while holding the quad and how the FC compensates when I tip the quad. If all I am doing is throttling up.

Something I found odd in Baseflight is that I could not get the motors to power up using the motor testing tab but I was able to sync my escs with this tab.

Re: 250 quad build with questions

You can also check which way the Naze32 board is facing.. the arrow on the board needs to be identified in Baseflight.

Or maybe a prop is mounted upside down?

Re: 250 quad build with questions

tonight I am going to go over everything and redo my settings.

This is what I setup as a baseline. Is there anything wrong or I should skip?

feature vbat
feature motor_stop
set align_board_yaw=270
set midrc = 1500
map TAER1234
set minthrottle = 1050
set maxthrottle = 1850
set looptime = 2500
set acc_lpf_factor = 100
set emf_avoidance = 1

feature SERIALRX
"set serialrx_type=3" for Graupner SUMD

save
