26cc gas engine selection - opinions??
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a 26cc gas engine for my Nitroplanes Christen Eagle. This will not be my primary airplane and as a result I didn't want to spend too much on an engine. There are many chinese gas engines for prices that seem hard to beat. Here is an example: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._V2_Gas_engine I am looking at the CRRC 26cc, the SV 26cc (both sold by a local dealer) and then the XYZ as sold by hobbycity.com I have a source for a NIB Zenoah G23 which can be purchased for $200.00. The question now remains, do I buy the heavier, old school but very reliable G23 or do I take my chances on one of the chinese engines and if so, which one? I would especially appreciate input from anyone that has experience with any of these engines (good or bad). Thanks in advance, Dave |

Hi
If I may make a suggestion .................... buy something that is supported by a dealer, and/or parts , it depends on you and what you expect . Michel

Re: 26cc gas engine selection - opinions??
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input so far. Yes, Hobby City does carry parts, however, I'm not sure who would do the repairs if necessary. For $129.00 (US Funds), I would buy the engine without any warranty expectations and I wouldn't expect the same type of customer service provided by a company such as Desert Aircraft. Its true, you get what you pay for. I do presently own a DA as well as a Zenoah and I am very pleased with both of them. I would like to try one of these chinese engines simply because most of them (if not all) look really pretty, compact and light. I'm really curious if they perform as good as they look which is why I'm considering these over some of the well known brand name engines. Does anyone have any experience with either XYZ engines, SV engines, CRRC or the JC 26cc? |

Re: 26cc gas engine selection - opinions??
I have a CRRC 26cc. Bought from Ray at Paragon RC Model (www.prcmodel.com) I have it in a Twist 150. Runs real nice and lots of power. I think Paragon is in Toronto. I would recomend the upgraded Electronic Egnition (RCEXL) with the CRRC 26cc. The service from Paragon is very good. As for the other ones from Hobby City I have no clue about those. I had mine running all summer and I love it.

Re: 26cc gas engine selection - opinions??
I have a crrc 26 I just put in a cmp yak, lots of power, I would say pretty close to my 180 saito. Low vibration and light, too light for the tail heavy yak. Only 2 flights and 1 tank of fuel on ground, seems decent. They say needs 20 hours of break in. Should be a good match for a aerobatic, not 3d, plane in the 12-14 pound range. I bought mine with a kit from akmodels. Much better shipping rates than nitro planes.

It looks like the CRRC is getting some good reviews. A club member recently bought the CRRC 26 and it appears to run well and the price is good.

Re: 26cc gas engine selection - opinions??
Don't forget the MLD28, its a real nice engine, lots of power and light, SV26 does not have a choke on it.
Also, DL is coming out with Dl30. Lots of info on the MLD28 here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_76..._1/key_/tm.htm
