How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
OK so Dennis got me hooked on the Sun Parlor heavy lift competition. One question, how does one cover the bottom of a highly cambered airfoil?
I feel like a beginner all over. Peter

Re: How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
Just use Balsarite....film or fabric. Tack down the edges, hit it with the heat gun than go back and iron down along the ribs.

Re: How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
Having covered many old timer, highly undercambered wings - I can say it requires a little practice!
Instead of tacking down the outside perimeter and then trying to tack down the ribs, start at the leading or traling edge and work your way for or aft, while firmly ironing down the covering along each rib. When you apply heat to shrink the covering in between the ribs, go carefully, and if you apply too much heat too fast you will soften the adhesive enough to let it go from the rib. Take your time, work in a pattern from the LE to TE and dont overdo the heat. Thats about it! As the previous poster suggested, some balsarite will also make things stick better. AJC

Re: How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
What BILL and AJCoholic said. I would recommend sticking with the iron, forget the gun. Dzl

Re: How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
I've done a couple of undercambered airfoils now. I found it easiest to actually start in the middle of each rib, at the highest point of the undercamber. Once all the middles are tacked down, then I start moving forward or rearwards. I also use a Coverite Trim iron. Makes the job much easier with the small shoe.

Re: How do you cover the bottom of airfoil?
I thought all your jets were undercambered slow fly beginner wings?
