1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Bought a completed airframe and need some help completing the plane. Where can I find wire for the landing and flying wires, control surfaces? Also, what size of servo do I need, I figure ones out of a 40 size plane won't do. Also, what size engine would you recommend? I'm leaning towards gas.

Thanks
Stephen

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Hi Stephen,

Yes, you probably want a gas engine...because you need the extra weight up in the nose
for proper C of G balance. Have a look at the Zenoah 38 or Quadra 42 enginess.Lots of info on the internet for these.

For servos, you can have a look at these for a starting point and go from there if you
want another brand: http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/ana.../hs-755hb.html

Your flying wires could either be plastic coated wire or kevlar with crimped ends and
adjustable turnbuckles. I think you can get these made by Dubro Manufacturing from most
hobby shops. Worst case would be a fishing tackle wholesaler ha ha

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Thanks for the info cassat. Just starting to fly and maybe I bit off more than I can chew at this point but saw the airframe at a swap meet and wasn't leaving empty handed (and the price was right)

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Forget the gasser, go with the OS 300 inline four..........sweet!

Just kidding, would be extremely nice though.

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Flew mine with an RCV90. Very scale as I could put an 18x12 prop on it.

Flying wires are decorative not functional. PITA generally. Don't wait till you've got the wires till you fly it though.

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Don't think you would get a Zenoah or similar in the cowl of a 1/4 scale DH82 - I can only just fit one under the hood on my 1/3 scale. And Gary Allen's (1/3 scale featured in Model airplane News) also just squeezed in a G45.

Don't like to cross post, but you might want to troll the threads on RCScalebuilder - there's a ton of 1/4 scale Tiger stuff there.

Cheers, Mike

WOW, did the RCV 90 perform well with that prop? I am installing one in a Bucker Jungmiester.

Very nice. It is a large (wing) plane and it flew very scale. I had to increase the wheels by an inch to accomodate that prop but it is a sweet engine.

It's going to go in my corsair (if I ever finish it) with the same prop. Not scale but as close as I can considering the wheel limitations (wheel wells).

Re: 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

Just a quick thought, do you have any idea what breed the kit was ? I have a pilot moth here and still have all the plans and building instructions. Maybe one of these days I'll actually finish it.
