Saito 125 bearing replacement

Hi Guys;

I have a saito 125 that I am going to replace the bearings. I have a new front and Horizon tells me the rear should be in within a week so I am getting ready.

I have the old red saito engine book that was published long before the 125 was made, can't seem to find any you tube rebuild videos.

I don't intend to change the rings or valving as it was running real strong, just a little noisy.

Any suggestions the order I should do things? I know enough to wait until I have all parts and to do it in one fell swoop. I know it is important to mark valve timing etc, so any other tips would be helpful.

Thanks Guys.

Re: Saito 125 bearing replacement

To bad you are so far away. I have a bearing puller for the rear bearing and an alignment pin for cam timing. I made the alignment pin from directions I got from Google search.
Anyway I am sure that you will make out OK.
Ron.

Re: Saito 125 bearing replacement

Jkovats, here is a link that should help you, it's a Saito 100 but the disassembly and reassembly will be similar with the 125. Lots of photos and instructions shown through several pages. Bearing replacement is a piece of cake

Re: Saito 125 bearing replacement

Hey Roger thanks for the link. That will be very helpful with some of the small details. It came just in time as I am doing the rebuild this weekend. I have rebuilt car engines and years ago replaced bearings in a 2 stroke so the saito is new to me but the principals are the same.

I love the idea in the article about blueprinting a motor. We did that in the 70's and 80's with small and big block Chevies. Made a big difference but a talented machine shop had to do it.

Re: Saito 125 bearing replacement

Hello John, be carefull when you disassemble the valve cover, backplate and the gearbox not to rip the gaskets, they are so thin. Before removing the con rod and the piston, mark a x on it to remember what side to put it back. And when you will put back on the gear and cover, pack the gear with a little grease so it won't move.
Good luck
JP
