Just wondering how may 9x owners are out there, how many are modding your tx's?

I'm a mod freak! This is where I'll share my modding adventure. I have two Turnigy 9x's from HK. For $38 it's the best bang for your buck for foamies and inexpensive planes. (I haven't used it enough to trust it on my bigger models, that I trust to mainstream names)

So far, one is modded with with the Smartie pants board, HK led backlight, and the sound mod (one very cool cheap mod btw) Upgraded with the latest er9x firmware. And the resister mod done to the Module, not the main board.

Next mod for this radio is an internal Spektrum transmitter module.

The other radio, will be modded too, without the smartie pants board, us

Here is a mod I did in a matter of minutes, the Speaker mod to use with er9x,

First get a 4.7u 25v Cap. (or a bag since they cost $1 for a bag)

Then find a nice looking piezo transducer... speaker.

Next, with a bit more care than I did (I used a box knife, I couldn't find my exacto knife), cut the traces.

Next , Solder a lead to the - leg of the cap. This will be soldered to the transducer later.

Now solder the + to the board, before the break you made, there is a junction you can solder to.

You can solder another lead to the board for the other pin of the transducer.

Solder the two leads you have to the transducer. Tin the Transducer leads and the wires so they bond quickly and easily.

Loop the transducer around the top so it fits snuggly, and will use the transmitter case as a reverb chamber, sounds reeaallly nice!

Close your tx, update the firmware to support the spkr mod, and listen to your musical tx chirp happily to you, instead of the annoying beep.

Thank you to er9x for the outstanding firmware, http://code.google.com/p/th9x/

And to THX for starting the firmware mods, very kewl stuff. Keeps me out of trouble...

Hardware guide for the speaker mod can be found here.
http://code.google.com/p/er9x/wiki/HardwareGuides

Parts for this mod were purchased at Sayal electronics... the worst place for me to be.... almost as bad as HK.

Any questions, please feel free to pm me, or leave a post, I will try to answer any inquiries.

The backlight for mine will arrive next week. Also have parts on order to flash the er9X firmware but not going the Smartie Board route.

Re: Turnigy 9x, Flysky, Eurgle, Imax mod thread.

I just installed the SmartieParts board, HK backlight, and flashed ER9X.
Here's my new splash screen.

Re: Turnigy 9x, Flysky, Eurgle, Imax mod thread.

Got a question on the Turnigy.... does it have a FCC or IC approval number on the back or does it say FC or CE on the back ?
