Thanks for the offer Jim and everyone else, no lost revenue. The new design will be posted shortly...same deal as before with the same supplier. At the end of Tuesday will be the cut-off date to order a t-shirt.

As of now our only problem is the community here being overly enthusiastic about this event. I hope that we don't disappoint everyone

There will be much to talk about next years' Maidenfest.

Re: Maidenfest 2012.......cancelled

The problem with "maidens" is not spectators. The problem is the current rule in the safety recommendations.

Recommendation 1) The current safety rule about maidens and the presence of spectators should be removed.

Recommendation 2) In place of the above rule a statement to the effect

" All maiden flights of aircraft shall be done with no other aircraft in the air at the time. An announcement that a maiden flight is about to take place and should be announced loudly by the pilot. The pilot shall have a spotter to assist during the entire maiden flight. A maiden shall be defined as the first flight of a completed new air frame including components and motor".

I believe this simplifies it, clarifies it, makes it easy to identify and enforce and covers what's been taking place anyway. It's a safety issue and an insurance issue. I am sure our insurance carrier would have no problem with this if this were written and enforced this way.

How "maidenfest" defines there qualification, ie new motor, substantial changes etc to participate in the funfly should have no bearing as to how "maidens" are defined by MAAC. Currently there are maidens done at fun fly events, IMAC events and regular club happenings and everyone is aware of it. We don't need a definition of a spectator we need clarification of the safety intent and how it should be applied. MAAC needs to clean this up ASAP with the definition and the insurer, because based on the "letter of the rule" this is being violated everyday and we all know it. It is just not practical the way it is currently written.

Someone should send this recommendation or a variation of it to the MAAC president. It won't be me.

Rather than speculate any more, why don't we take this recommendation to the insurance company and get their feed back, because let's face it, that's what this entire issue is all about anyway.

I also think you should still sell Maidenfest T shirts. They will become a collectors item.

John, I will send in your recomendations to the new Safety Chair, Doug Anderson, I think that this is exactly what he is looking for.

Sorry for the delay guys. It was impossible for the printer to get the orders done separately for everyone on such short notice, especially with the new design.

I have placed an order for 55 t-shirts in size 2X (10 light grey, 25 light green and 20 white. This was all that was available and in stock on such short notice) I will pay for them and they will be available on a first-come first-serve basis for around $14.00 each .

We will also take orders at the event for any size t-shirt and have them available for pick-up or to be mailed in a weeks time after the event.

We will try and post the new design on Tuesday.
