OK, you guys are just way too serious... my comment was not meant to get anyones panties in a bunch, it was a tongue in cheek statement. By "necessary evil" I was referring to maac being like high gas prices or taxes, everybody has to pay so we just accept it, pay for it, and move on. I was not saying that maac was a bad thing, you just assumed that I knocking maac.
Loosen up guys, why not have a sense of humor and a little fun in life. |

to answer the question unless the park your flying at has all the stuff mentioned in the regulation stated in maac then no your not covered so if you don't have a proper field available then no it's not worth purchasing
but........... proper etiquette must be followed for safety reasons i fly in my local parks more than at the club field i'm a member of but i choose locations that are sutable such as football fields and schoolyards that aren't being used and when kids start to show up I land and go home or move to another spot just wanted to share what's worked for me for several years now, happy flying.

Can someone tell me what exactly a MAAC approved flying site is? Is there a list of approved sites somewhere that I can view?

Don't worry Zippy, I still love you even if you fly underpowered engines on small planes that do start a little better in 40+ degrees due to carb placement :P HE HE HE

I think that the whole story has been covered both here, on the MAAC / ZD websites and in the magazine as well. The picture in question was taken with a telephoto lens at a distance, which results in the foreshortening of the items behind the pilot, making them look a lot closer. Yes, no safety fencing directly in front of the pilot, but that was becasue he was standing next to the fencing and the plane and the crowd were well-seperated, with the ZD and club safety officer standing right there. Yes, I will agree that many clubs do cut corners and do not enforce the rules -- just saw one of a club's helipter guys flying with nothing between him and the helicopter while it was doing inverted flight. |
