Club Race Suggestion
Club Racing Suggestion
Just wondering how people would feel about the following idea for club racing: Currently how it works is: There are qualifying races against time where each car starts at a different tone. After the second race I believe it's reshuffled to race against different people as well. This is very good for trophy races but I was wondering for club racing wouldn't it be more fun to have more racing than qualifying? The proposed idea is to have 3 separate races qualifiers where each qualifier is in fact a race where everyone starts at the same time. Of course the issue is with randomness of starting positions... Here's how it works: To be fair we could have each person start each race in 3 separate "blocks" of starting positions. A1-3 B4-6 C7-9. So if you are in race #1 and you started in block A1-3 for race #2 you will be in a random position of B4-6. Race #3 You will be in random block C7-9. Would the current software be able to track this or would we need an add on module? The point of all this is it gives each person a chance to experience the start of a race at the front/middle/back and gives a lot more race time experience. Doesn't everyone agree racing is more fun than qualifying? Nothing like the thrill of the start and the dreaded first turn right? I think this would be a much more fun way of doing club racing. I think it would also increase the experience level of all the racers too. Of course we would still be keeping track of qualifying times and there would still be MAINS at the end. I just think the qualifying time would be a lot more fun. Benefits:

OH YA BABY!!! , just like the way races were run "back in the day" "IMFAR style" starts are boring! They work good for trophy races though.
I'm a strong believer that, "heads up" or "tone starts" starts allow everyone a better chance at learning how to race side by side, it also allows you a chance to see where, you are, or another competitor is faster or slower. Spectators also have a better chance of following the race. It will also make the Mains a little less, I say a little less of a crashfest as drivers are a little more relaxed with the starts and know what to expect. Everyone can benefit from this, spectators, newbies and experienced racers alike. It will make for much for exciting racing. How about double file starts too !? Even though I've never raced at Sid's, I will be out this season and maybe more often than not if there are "heads up" starts just .02 cents.

Good suggestion Marty.
I can see how the noobies can get confused with the current setup. Racing against the others definetly makes for more exciting racing than racing against the clock. Perhaps we can try out this sugestion for one race day to gauge how it works out?

I love the double file starts too (or even with a slight stagger). Makes for Awesome first corner action!

I remember some tracks had triple file starts!, worked good for 9 car heats, that way everybody got a chance to start from each row
Ahh manual lap counting, back when you had to stick a number on your car and stop immediately when they called "time" and your car was counted in the tenths of a lap
