I dont do anything to my gassers... should I be? Some are three years old now and no signs of anything wrong. But they are stored in a dry place.

Thanks Andrew,
I figured draining the fuel etc etc would be enough....
Nice to make sure though..........

Well, I hope some others that have been using gassers for more than a few years will chime in...

However, for y chainsaw, and weedwacker I have for years just put it into the shed at the end of the season and they are allways ready to rock and roll in the summer. I imagine these engines are not too fussy, and since we are not using alcohol based fuel, they dont attract moisture. I doint even run them dry myself.

So what do you more experienced guys do??

The only thing I do with my gassers is to add a half ounce of gasoline stabilizer to every 5 litres of gas, all the time. That way, if the plane is stored for any length of time, the gas that remains in the carb will be ok, in other words, the additives that are in gas will not separate or come out of solution. Nor will any of the stuff in the gas gum up anything. I also do this for my lawn mower and snowblower.

I read somewhere that it is not a good idea to run the engine dry, as there are diaphrams in the carb that may dry out and crack.

That's an interesting point......
I have witnessed major Carb damage on NON Diaghram type Mikuni's when gas has been left in the bowl...
The stabilizer sounds like a god way.... Wonder what's best

I would guess > 90% of all gasser carbs are Walbro and parts are generally available and cheap.
About the only maintainance items are the filter screen and the diaphragm. One school of thought says to clean the filter at least once a year and when storing the engine run it dry and replace the diaphragm as a matter of course at the start of the next flying season.........bearings etc are bullet proof except for dirt and dry storage would take care of any potential rust problems I imagine........

I was always taught to run the engine dry and put a teaspoon of 2cycle oil in the cylinder. I have done this for years with motorcycle engines and they always work perfect in the spring. I also like to drain the floatbowls manually, but I guess that doesn't apply here, but I know from tuning friends engines that any gas left in the carbs can sure make a gooy mess after a winter of storage. Just me two bits worth.

I use fuel stabilizer all year round.

For winter storage I spray a engine fogging oil into the carb while the engine is running.

I found the fogging spray at Walmart -

similiar info at the link below

I am new to the gas model aircraft engines .

They use similar fuel to my 1986 outboard and I always ran the carb dry after each use.

In the winter I sprayed engine storage oil in the plug hole. This I bought from Canadian Tire.

This outboard started on the second pull every time. Even after sitting for one year in the basement.

The most important thing to do for a gas powered engine I think is to run the carb dry after each flight. This keeps the carb from gumming up. Also use new fuel in the spring.

My 2 cents.
