Aw man. How come you guys have no snow?

Is that a powered glider you are flying? Looks fast on the low passes!

Re: Max’s FPV streak: Winter 2014/15

11 consecutive days!!
Back to the dreary skies

Dec 22, 2014:

The grey skies and strong winds are back. But that didn't put a damper on any flying. On the first flight I knew the strong headwinds would keep my groundspeed low, but I was wondering why my Pitot airspeed showed I was flying SLOWER than my groundspeed, even when my groundspeed was already slow. Then I glanced over the left wing. Oops... hee hee.. Good thing it has a red flag on it.

No biggie, I flew that flight without incident, and remembered to take it off for the next 2 flights

Then I took the quad out, since I put a new undercarriage on it last night. This will allow me to sling a larger camera on the gimbal that hangs below.

6 flights today!

Flight times:
1: 20.67 minutes: BigRed
2: 19.7 minutes: BigRed
3: 31.25 minutes: BigRed
4: 8 minutes: Quad
5: 8 minutes: Quad
6: 8 minutes: Quad

Total air time today:
1 Hour, 35-1/2 minutes

Total Time in the Air since this streak began:
7 Hours, 45 Minutes

Total Number of Flights since this streak began:
29

Ya. Even with the red flag! The funny thing is, I performed my calibration of the airspeed sensor before takeoff. You have to leave the pilot cover on when you calibrate it, then take it off when you are done.

I blame it on the kids! Insanity is hereditary: You get it from your kids!!

Don't sweat it, even full scale planes take off with the gust locks still in place occasionally

Re: Max’s FPV streak: Winter 2014/15

12 consecutive days!!
Is it bad to say "I prefer the colder weather"?

Dec 23, 2014:

This crappy weather is really starting to get me down. Sure, its +4 degrees, but today's forecast was rain all day, starting early in the morning.
So early in the morning, I went out with my quad, trying to get flying in a hurry, expecting to maybe get just one flight before the rains came. It was foggy, and visibility was poor, but the rain did not come, and I got 3 flights in on the quad. Then I went home for breakfast.

After lunch, there was still no rain, and looking out the window, it seemed like visibilty had improved. So I took the LT out for a fly. But the weather fooled me. On the ground, visibility looked good. In the air, I barely got to 50' before visibility was poor. From the ground, my spotter could see the plane clearly, but from the air, it was tough to see very well. So I only did 6 minutes before I got tired of looking through fog and mist and decided I had enough.

4 flights in total. I would have loved to have flown more, but the weather is just not cooperating.

The forecast for the next few days is even worse. I'm glad I have my quad rainproofed. I think I will be using it exclusively over the next 2 days, but I don't have the desire to fly more than one flight per day if the rains are going to be heavy.

Flight times:
1: 7.5 minutes: Quad
2: 7.5 minutes: Quad
3: 8.25 minutes: Quad
4: 6 minutes: LT40

Total air time today:
29-1/4 minutes

Total Time in the Air since this streak began:
8 Hours, 15 Minutes

Total Number of Flights since this streak began:
33

I have seen that view before, but it was in the front seat of a twin cessna doing an approach in near minimums. I have to hand it to you....thats some dedication.

Aw man that is cool!!

My first intro to (modern) FPV was on a radian. It was heavenly, and it got me hooked! Remember Lloyd's glider? I always wanted a big one to FPV as well.
How much bigger is "wee bit bigger" ?? Dont say double!!!

Heh...I remember doing that once or twice flying FS. A VERY uncomfortable feeling, especially if what you are flying only has basic VFR instruments. Its not that worrisome in FPV- The plane is never far our out of sight, so there is no worry about "getting lost"
