Need help with batteries

Hi everyone, Im new to electrics and I am putting together with my son a Kadet Sport EG and we are gonna go electric. From what I can see I need a 5S to 6S battery for this thing and prices vary a lot. Where is the best source for batteries in canada and could I use 2 X 3S 4000 mah batteries instead of a 5S or 6S? Thank you.

Re: Need help with batteries

You can certainly wire up 2 3 cell lipos in serices to give you a 6S lipo.

But

Are you sure you need to go 5 or 6?

The reason I ask is a friend at our club has the same plane and he flies it on a single 4S-3000 using the HK NTM 42-48

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...0KV_1295W.html

it flies amazing on this power system, loops rolls and aerobatics. Not sure about his run time but it was resepectable

I was so impressed with the performance I ordered the same motor for one of my planes.

PS- if you get that motor, dont forget the accessories for it; I forgot to order it for mine and had to put in another order just for this:

Re: Need help with batteries

Ya maybe I don't need all that battery power. I was just looking at the manual and they talk about a 5-6 S in the 4000-5000 mah range.

Re: Need help with batteries

I was thinking of maybe put two 3S 4000mah batteries in parallel to make a 6S 4000mah. Does that make sense?

Re: Need help with batteries

I wonder if he was able to get 10 minutes flight time out of that with a 4S 3000?

No, that would make a 3S 8000mAh. Actually it would be 3S2P 8000mAh
(3 cells in Series by 2 in Parallel)

If you want a 6S you have to wire them in series.

Re: Need help with batteries

Yes sorry about that. In series. I have a hard time keeping this electric stuff straight in my head. I was think 6S 4000 mah. Not sure how that would work on this plane with a Hacker A40 motor?

With the Canadian Dollar at a low I would say an Arm and a Leg. If you want more than one pack, which I'm sure you do then I would say HobbyKing. But do shop around first, you may find a good price in Canada. Try a Canadian Hobby store and let them know you'll buy from HobbyKing if you can't find a good deal. That may work to keep your business in Canada. Or post a wanted add on RCCanada for the batteries you want. Cheers Floyd

Re: Need help with batteries

What a great idea. BUY FROM HOBBY KING. Spend our cash offshore and do not support your local hobby shop. Soon there will not be any Canadian shops and when you need something it will have to come from offshore. Almost everything we buy is now made offshore and what has happened to our manufacturing??? Make others rich: do not buy locally!!!
