Up from the ashes

Seems to have gotten a bit quiet here lately so thought I would share the resurrection of one of my old favorites. A Lanso Bomber resized to .05 electric by Leisure Electric.

I bought this as a half finished kit at an auction some 25 or 30 years ago. It has a lot of hours on it including a number of minor boo-boos that have been patched up over the years. Just recently I dug it out of storage and upgraded the battery to Lipos. It then suffered the worst "dumb thumb" yet while I was introducing a middle aged friend to RC and did the nicest "nose plant" ever! My fault as I should have taken over control when he was that low but it looked like he had it under control...

Snapped the wing in half (sorry forgot to get a picture) and split the fuse open on the front.

A picture of before fresh out of storage and the wing repair so far.

Re: Up from the ashes

NICE repair job. Looks better than new from this angle.

Hey, I had a workbench just like in days past.

Really cool doing repair jobs that make the model as good or better than original, isn't it?

Re: Up from the ashes

It used to look like this, the covering went all punky over the years. She now has a saito 56 on it... picked the old girl up a few years ago at a swap meet lol.

Re: Up from the ashes

Thanks for the nice words Wayne!

Really nice job Keith! Good choice of engine too!

Yes I have seen that video Bill. Thanks, I enjoyed it again!

So the yellow is going on now.

Then to the fuse repair. Won't be as bad as it looks! The longerons are maple and all in tact. I learned the balsa vs hardwood for OT'er longerons lesson the last time I rebuilt this fuse!

Re: Up from the ashes

Last year there was an older gentleman flying a similar type of old timer airframe in the large park nearby. Also electric and he had a lighting system in the wing/fuse and tail. Pretty bright and looked real neat in the dark. He looked to be having a blast. More power to him. Nice repair job should fly like new. Good stuff.
