Building a Diamond duster

I am getting all the building mat'l to build a balsa DD. I have a rossi 40 to power this bird. I have to buy new servos and would like to know what servos should be used. My guess would be more than standard.

I am looking at hs 225, (55oz) or on this fast plane should I be thinking Metal gear.

I built a SPAD dust (35" span) with a 46FX and 425bb's. Standard 3004 or 425bb are just fine. Clocked mine at 97mph.

Keep in mind control surface movement is very limited. My elevon's are only set up for 1/4" up / 1/4" down. More than enough.

My plastic speed won't be a high as your ba speed but even so, I don't think that you need more than std servos.

DD

Yes I have built the coro small version. I want to go all out and go for speed. I picked up the plans at a airshow for a $1. Worth trying.

Hi Bryan

You might try sending Perry (Simcoeflyer) a PM. He has built 4 or 5 Dymond Dusters.

Here's what I used for the elevon servos on mine. Works great...
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXUZ88

I also use a simple HS-81MG on the Throttle.

I currently have an OS 46FX on it, with a pre-tuned Mac's pipe kit. We measured the speed (back when the engine wasn't worn out) at ~143mph. One day it'll see a BSE Jett Fire 50...

That plane is ballistic, you'll love it!

Oh yes, they are a blast.

Here's my Diamond Dust. OS .46 FX with 9x8 APC prop. Two JR standard digital servos for the elevons. Capable of full speed 90 degree turns at full elevator. Turn radius, oh, about 20 feet.

Unfortunatly, it met its demise this past spring, as I zigged when I should have zagged. They don't take kindly to hitting terra firma at 125 mph.

PS. Please ignore the "hat". I have no idea what I was thinking at the time.

Nice hat Jim.

Can't believe you posted that onto the net and drew our attention to it.

On the topic of props, I tried an 9x8 just like Jim did, but found a better top end with an APC 8.8 x 8.75 Pylon prop. Just an FYI.
