Looking For Electric Motor Knowledge
Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a source online (or anywhere else) where one can learn about electric R/C motors. I'm only about about 7 months into the hobby and the extent of my motor knowledge is what a Traxxas 12T 550 motor looks like! (Easy to spot since both my Rustler and Stampede have one!) I would like to get into a brushless system and so far I'm leaning toward the Velineon system. I would like to stay with a waterproof (water resistant) system because the kid in me (and my 5 year old son) just love making waves through puddles. Thank you in advance for any assistance, resources or advice given! Mario

Re: Looking For Electric Motor Knowledge
Can anyone explain the difference between a 3500 and a 4600 Kv motor?
Is a motor with a higher Kv more powerful than one with a lower one? Thanks!

Re: Looking For Electric Motor Knowledge
I don't know a lot about electric as I'm absorbing some of the terminology myself for an upcoming airplane build, but the KV rating is how many RPM per volt applied. So a 3500KV motor ideally will produce 3500RPM when 1 volt is applied.

Re: Looking For Electric Motor Knowledge
If I'm not mistaken I do believe the higher the kv number (6000kv) higher top speeds
And lower kv(2200kv) means more torque!!! Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure and I think kv means kilo volts |

Re: Looking For Electric Motor Knowledge
Not kilo-volts in this sense. If that were the case, a 6000kv motor would be a 6 million volt motor, not possible.

The Kv is RPM/volt that the motor will spin with no load. This is not a bad document: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1715515
