My buddy has a O.S 1976 10FSR that has been in storage along time. And we can't get it started. Got any suggestions??

Fresh fuel
New clow plug
Check fuel tank stapper and lines
Clean needle valve and make sure it isn't plugged.
Check glow driver connection with a spare glow plug to ensure it is working.

If the plug glows then try priming through the exhaust port if it still doesn't start.

You might have done these already but if not

A couple of things to look at:

1) if the engine was run on castor based fuel and then left to sit for years it might be gummed up. Does it turn over freely. If not you could remove the carb and backplate and immerse it in some 10-15% fuel for a day or two.

2) Same goes for the carb. The needles should be removed and the spraybar should be checked to make sure it is not plugged. I,m pretty sure that it has an air bleed carb which means the low speed needle (air bleed adjustment) works in reverse to a normal two needle carb. IE: turn the air bleed screw in to richen the mixture(less air) and out to lean it (more air).

3) Put in a new glow plug.

All else being good, if you have fuel and fire and compression a 2-stroke engine should start.

If you have checked these things already and the engine still won't start then all I can say is GOOD LUCK.

also check the muffler... i stored an engine for a little over a year and when i tried to start it ..... no luck?? Finally found out that i had put some paper towel into the end of muffler outlet to keep it from dripping out and the paper towel was just pushed in far enough to not be noticable. After about an hour of farting around i finally figured it out

Another one that gets people (self included) with remote needles, is the small piece of tubing that goes from the needle to the carb. I'm not sure if yours has that or not. But a small hole in there will keep you guessing for hours.

The 1976 vintage OS 10 does not have a remote needle. It's right on the carb. That eliminates the problem of that pesky extra fuel line from the needle to the carb which is only good to be a source of trouble.

I had one of those engines once. It ran reasonably well. It was not a great starter.

I did learn thought that those smaller engines tend to like a good bit of nitro in the fuel. Otherwise they tend to run cold and lousy. Fresh fuel is important too.

Lots of possibilities here - could be as simple as the needle valve not being opened. So it's hard to say without any more info than, "it won't start."
