32% model competitive?

While at the US Nats in F3A this year I was approached about competeing in the Don Lowe Masters in 2007/2008 (the 2006 invite list is already full). They basically seed some of the invite list from the finalists at the F3A Nats in Muncie of which I was one this year (first canuck in the finals since Ivan in '99!).

So....having no IMAC anything (and no I am not going to start flying IMAC on a regular basis!)....and not sure if I even want to take a plunge like this....the question is and I need a seriously honest answer....would a 32% ish (100" or so wingspan) model be competitive in an event like the DLM? It would need to be seriously competitive...not just do a half ass job.

I have no interest in going up to the 42% crowd....so if thats whats required I will decline

No you wouldn't be competive but you probably finish in the middle of the pack.

There is going to be lots guys disagreeing wih me but if you don't get a 42% I wouldn't even bother showing up. Most guys will say it's not the size of the aircraft but the pilot. That's true if you want to finish at the bottom, if you want to be competive you need the big stuff.

I recently went to the Montmagny, QC contest and I had the pleasure to judge a couple of rounds of unlimited. There was five aircraft, four 42% airplanes and one 35%. I don't think I have to tell you how the 35% aircraft did. The pilot was excellant and did a great job but it just didn't present as well as the big ones.

Watch the results from SA Nats this weekend and I KNOW there will be only 42% aircraft in the top 3 for both Unlimited and Advance.

If you want to make a comparison to Pattern it would be like flying a Finesse in FAI. It would do it well but........

Go big or stay at home Chad.

sad but very true commentary on "presentation" aspects of competing.

Pattern isn't any different

what's the difference :

Like Mike S. said earlier, if you don't have a 40% ship for Advanced or Unlimited, you're just practicing
