Both were WWII fighter piolts who never met in air combat. Both served with distinction. After WWII ended, both were trained and flew F-86 Sabres

I will provide additional clues if no one can correctly identify the two fighter pilots

One flew an RCAF Spitfire and provided air cover for the Dieppe landing
The other flew a Luftwaffe ME-109 on the Eastern front

Darn it Mike, you must have access to "On Windswept Heights II"

I was hoping the clues would continue for at least a day before someone came up with the correct two names

I'll have to find some WWII pilot who will be more difficult to name

Re: Can You Name These Two Fighter Pilots?

Actually it wasn't hard. I recognized the German officers uniform and the aircraft in the background, a German F86 Sabre. Googled German F86 and found JA -111 which flew Sabres. Erich Hartmann commanded that SQN and his personal airplane was a Sabre. Googled Erich Hartmann and found this picture with Sqn Ldr Duke Warren's name on it. The clue was the Sabre.

It's also a photo from Wiki I believe, about Warren, I was reading up on him, and they mentioned that he was Hartmann's boss, with NATO forces. Hartmann is extremely well known, so hard to miss him. I only know about Warren from chance reading.

Re: Can You Name These Two Fighter Pilots?

Actually that is Doug Warren, I've read His autobiography. He had a twin brother Bruce who also flew Spits during the war. Both were awarded the DFC and at the awards ceremony when the king presented the second brother his gong he asked 'Didn't I already give you one of these?' Or words to that effect. Bruce went on the be a test pilot for AVRO and died in a CF100 crash, ironically the day the RCAF accepted the fighter into service. The crash occurred outside Komoka Ontario on my friend's farm. My friend has an airfield on the farm, it's Warren Field, in tribute to Bruce.

The twins were both called Duke, Duke MkI and Duke MkII, both were flight leaders in the same squadron and both service records were within 10 hours of service flight. Both humble enough that the number of kills, while comparable, were hard to pin down.

A short biography can be found here http://www.bombercommandmuseum.ca/warrentwins.html

With Remberance Day just behind us, we should be proud of men like the Warren's.

Doug died within the last two years but was aware and appreciative of my friend's efforts to keep the memory of his brother alive. My friend, Mark Mathyss, is looking for plans of the CF100 so that a large scale model can be built and mounted on the field. http://www.avroarrow.org/cf100crash.asp
