Removing Monocote without leaving residue

I am going to recover a plane I picked up this summer. I am unsure of what it is covered with but I know Monocote usually leaves the paint/glue residue. I am looking for methods or products to remove the covering and residue which work.

I have been told one method is to use a heat gun when removing the covering. This will soften the glue and almost all will go with the film. Any other ideas? Also techniques or products for removing any remaining paint/glue on the airframe. Thank you.

Stephen

Use the heat gun method. It will lift most of the covering off but you need to peel it off while the covering is still hot. Little colour maybe left. Acetone on a piece of paper towel will remove that easily. Done this many many times and does work. By chance any color still remaining use a very genntle piece of sandpaper.

Re: Removing Monocote without leaving residue

I used the heat gun method, then I rub a piece of clear packing tape over it while its still hot. Peal off the tape and colored adhesive comes off clean

One Prop for that!
Marc, I'm going to try that for sure. Even have a candidate on the workbenk (in the way).
Seeing I'm having an issue finding a supplier of ChinaKote locally. I will add a forth color and a new scheme to hide the re-assembly. Meaning it dis-assembled in the wrong order coming out of a tree. Yes I too have hit a tree, then another, then another. Ouch, my pride.
