Wing

Hi Ron, thanks for the washout answer.

I have the templates made, and the wing shapes cut, just have to cut the cores. I take it both you and Gary are looking for backup wings? I don't have a problem cutting them, but I'm no expert. Maybe by the time I get practiced up on mine, I'll be ready to do yours.

I am wondering if I can cut tail feathers, and add the on top of the flat stab, will it stiffen up the stab so I don't need the wires?

I can cut the tail feathers, but I don't have any templates. I saw where Craig sent you the plan, and was wondering if there is a root and tip cross section for the stab.

Gary, to answer you, if I'm going to cut one, what's another 2 or 3? No problem, just need the time to do it.

Thanks Dennis. Let me know how much I need to send you! AND I don't need the tail feathers. My kit already has the flying stab.

Dennis: Gary has the tail plan, I can make templates from it. The main reason I want the airfoiled tail is for the strength. The flat tail can be a little wobbly, and has led to flutter on several occasions for local pilots. Looks better too!

The new kits, like Gary's have a built-up airfoiled tail.
I am building the Extra from an older kit, hence the need for airfoiled tailfeathers. I have also built a second fuse from the plan, and was thinking of making it a foam wing for the back-up plane. I may even make them plug-in wings.
I already have 2 flat tails built, but I would probably scrap them if I got the foam cores. I hadn't thought of adding foam to the surface, it may work, but it will be VERY thin foam for the most part. Plus it may add weight .

We can talk about it in detail at the swap meet!
