Might be picking up one of these Saturday, NIB kit, and building for a good friend. Like to hear from anyone that's built one, or flown/flying one, and get some good intel on it!

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

Dave, not wanting to take you away from RC Canada, but there is another forum, RC ScaleBuilder that has a build thread for the YA Spit, located at http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/...ics.asp?FID=29

You need to register, at no cost, to be able to read the threads. I currently am building a YA Zero, and have a build thread on that site.... no crap, no flaming, only good advice and constructive suggestions allowed on that site.

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

Hi Dave, I don't have personal experience with the YA Spitfire but I do have a 'Warbirds over the Rockies' DVD which has a nice feature on this plane. Apparently it flies really well as the pilot even described it as a good "warbird trainer"! It sure looks great on the DVD!

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

Went and picked up the Spitfire today! Now, just have to figure out how to swap this one for my old Dave Platt Spit, in a way that Tom, whom I'm building it for, won't notice the swap! lol

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

I've only spent a couple of hours drooling over this. I've always, since about 1990, wanted a Yellow Aircraft kit. Least I get to build it! lol

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

Fortunately, My Dave Platt Spit is almost done, engine is in, (DLE 35 RA), it's a perfect fit, just need to get the fuel tank, radio gear all installed, finish the ailerons, and start the detailing. Fuse and wings are already primed, so very close, with the exception of landing gear, might go for the YA gear, it's moderately priced, and very scale.

Re: Yellow Aircraft Spitfire

Got the wing outer panels joined to the center section. I used MAS epoxy, first without any thickening agent, to flow it into the slots for the dihedral braces, and also on the foam itself. Once the panels were set, taped on the bottom, and dihedral checked, I then used thickened epoxy to work into the join. Left that for 30 mins, and then thickened the epoxy a bit more, and troweled in goop until it oozed out of the join. Tipped it off, now it will sit overnight, I'll check it frequently for the next few hours though, to make sure it doesn't warp, explode, whatever!
