+1 on the Engine vs Motor. I learned the difference very early on in electrical/electronics thery classes way back when, and several chaps got their knuckles rapped (literally) for misapplication of the terms.

A comment that gets me (usually from someone of the fair gender) "Oh, that's sooo cu-u-ute!" when refering to my latest pride and joy.

Re: Pet Peeves and Insults

Of course we can go deeper and put Siege Engines into the discussion.
No Combustion no Compression just a Mechanical Multiplier but throughout History named Siege Engine.

Around the same time I read a copy of Engine Trends magazine while zipping around a lake in an engine boat.

Re: Pet Peeves and Insults

"How high can it fly"?

"How far can it go?"

"How much did it cost?"

Any of these sound familiar?

Re: Pet Peeves and Insults

Engine vs Motor. A loosing battle. EVER heard of Motorsports when it comes to Motorcycle racing or Auto racing? This is the link to a Motorsports photography forum.

My R/C photos go in the Transportation forum.

You'll have a very hard time convincing gear heads (I'm in the muscle car restoration business) their cars have Engines & not Motors. I want to buy a Harley Davidson Engine Cycle. GOOD LUCK at changing history.

Re: Pet Peeves and Insults

My greatest irritant is the word TOY that manages somehow permeate EVERY RC media article or TV program ever produced, it appears to do so with regular monotony,

This tedious overuse would appear to be almost mandatory within media reports nowadays and in our case its clearly used to create some perceived level of ridicule, however minor.

Over sensitive ......What, me?
