Smile Finally, some good flying!

I finally worked out my radio issues and had a GREAT day of flying!! I've been plagued by problems with what seemed to be interference, not to mention some engine troubles. All that's (hopefully) behind me and I can enjoy the rest of the summer.

The only evident thing to point my finger at is the R168DF receiver that came with my Futaba 6EXP radio. Go figure...all my R127DF's are flawless, but that thing caused at least one downed plane and very nearly another. Swapped it out and everything is great.

I should give Futaba a call...

For a relatively new rc hobbyist (just over a year), problems like that can get pretty depressing, especially when I only make it out once every week or two for an hour at best. But now all 3 of my regular planes are flying good - my Great Planes Cub 40 with a Saito 56 GK, Kyosho Pitts Special with an Evo.46NT, and now my Seagull Harmon Rocket with an OS.46AX.

Oh happy day!!

Re: Finally!

My suggestion would be to check out the Hitec RCD products....especially when the
distributor is only 1 1/2 hrs from you. It all interchanges with Futaba gear.

Re: Finally!

glad to hear you had fun! this hobby can leave you in a state of bliss or drive you crazy. as previously mentioned, hitec stuff is great. after 25 years with futaba i am making the gradual switch because i had four!! futaba servos fail in the last four years(they were all less than a year old).. john

Re: Finally!

nothing is more frustratiung than equipment problems at the field, and if your limited to a few hours a week to fly it really gets old fast when nothing wants to work for ya.

I get that way after a few weeks of thrashing planes and not making the little repairs and inspections up, then it makes it a pain to go flying...best solution is to get the planes ready at home, even if it means test running engines and stuff, just to keep the time at the field for flying, not fixing.

Thanks Bill. That's exactly what I do...I spend a lot of time in the basement fiddling and testing, and running engines in the back yard, even taxiing around the yard. Funny that it sometimes does not translate into success at the field, which means a wasted trip and more mysteries to solve.

A lot of it, I think, is related to full throttle vibration under flying conditions. That's something pretty hard to simulate and test..

It's all a big learning experience, which is part of what makes rc so engaging. It would get pretty boring if it was perfect everytime!

Re: Finally, some good flying!

Oh heck - I didn't realize that I used the same thread heading "Finally!" as AJC did for his good news...I'm so sorry, I certainly wasn't trying to take anything away from that. I've edited this thread heading. Sorry Andrew.
