Kaos .40 ARF trimming

I just got back into the hobby last year after a 26 year absence. I purchased a Kaos .40 ARF from tower hobbies. After I was getting along ok with my trainer I switched to the Kaos. It would not track straight through loops and other maneouvers. The stab was quite flexible and made like a warren truss and only covered with plastic covering. As a result of several poor landings I cracked both rear spars and one of the front spars. The stab was only 3 mm thick. I stripped the covering off it and put 1/16 balsa sheet on both sides and re-covered it. Now I had a 5mm stab and a 3mm elevator. This made trimming for level flight almost impossible. I took the razor blade plane to the trailing edge of the elevators and glued on 1/4" dowel the full length of the elevators. Now it responds like it should, now if I could only get my brain in sync with my thumbs I might have a chance.

Re: Kaos .40 ARF trimming

Sounds good Kip ! The original version from Bridi had a solid balsa stab. To
prevent the ailerons from fluttering, lots of guys would "seal the gap" .
What engine are you running on yours? How is slow speed flight?
