ap/av insurance

hey guys
I am now looking to find a good place for insurance for aerial photo/video
have been calling around but have yet to find anyone willing to cover
so I was hoping to start a thread to get a list of insurance companies that do cover your business's and how you like them (what they are covered as).

A sticky subject! What have you found out?

You will find this will be a big pill to swallow.

My suggestion; make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you decide to spend the insurance dollars.

Cheers Jerry

Re: ap/av insurance

You must have all your ducks in a row before you talk to your insurance company. You must sell it to them, but remember they are holding all the cards. Do your home work be prepared don't call them up and say "I want to fly a toy heli at 15lb in built up area to take pictures of public property". You will have to explain the process the method and the safety. Insurance companies are in the risk management business. If they don't understand the risk they will just charge us big $$.

Remember TC approval is based on valid insurance. To get started you need to get a MAAC membership join a club and start the process. We can fly our AP ships privately but remember you can charge for aerial work. You can fly at a club or on your property and on private property if you have permission from the owner.

You won't get cut dry answer from any one on the cost it not like car insurance, but i can tell you it will be above 5k. This will very base on total air time per year years of operation and how good of sales man you are.

Re: ap/av insurance

you figure i should get my maac membership so i can start talking to tc while I going through the underwriting process?
mind if a ask you a few more questions through pm for now
as i believe youve been doing this for a bit now right.
thanks Mael

as for the price of insurance thats kind of why i think its good to share info Its a small enough industry that we can stick together share and no step on each others toes

Re: ap/av insurance

I fail to see how MAAC membership will help when seeking out a TC special use license, since the MAAC membership will not cover that activity.

Maybe you can get in touch with companies in the business? http://www.aneagleeyeview.ca/contact.html

Re: ap/av insurance

You may also want to do some reading on TC's website.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/re...ards/623d2.htm immediately comes to mind, section 623.65(d), but there may be other relevant regulations.

I hope TC will move quickly on this (doubtful), as certain standards in terms of comms link must be mandated. Our RC systems are not designed to be very robust (read: "must accept any harmfull interference") and are probably not ideal for potentially risky operation in dense urban areas.

Re: ap/av insurance

Eyeinsky,

Do you currently have insurance to perform Aerial Photography jobs that you can charge for? (not MAAC, actual business liability for your heli ops).

If yes, how much are your actual premiums, and what is your coverage?

Cheers,

Patrick
