But do you want to know how many millions were spent by Disney? Disney also didn't spend that money for any other reason than to try and make even more money. (Good luck with 'officially' appropriating the franchise to benifit clubs or associations)

The group? No.
A couple of people with chips on their shoulders and desires to be 'in the limelight' tried to have me removed. It didn't work. And before you try and paint the 'FAI' crowd with the same brush, the move didn't have anything to do with the FAI and I've seen similar 'power struggles' in a variety of events.
Interestingly, it was a group of guys from Manitoba that put in the yeoman's work to make the event a success. (and it was a success in everyone's eyes)

Gotta to wonder why someone would go to all that trouble for only a chip on their shoulder, wasn't one of the chips MAAC's FAI glider champion and fellow competitor.

Re: Non FAI contributions to Aeromodelling

The driving force was someone who had gotten involved at a fairly high level but wanted the event held at a unsuitable field 10 minutes from his house. The others seemed to be 'pulled on side.'

Power struggles are seen everywhere and are generally motivated by someone's need to stroke their ego - that was certainly the case in this situation as the person who led the charge didn't even show up at the event in the end.

Yep, another reason to be dishing out thousands of dollars a year of membership fees for MAAC FAI - feed their ego's!

Like I said above, egos needing to be fed isn't a FAI thing. Not even close.

Yah.
But nothing that the feeling of a bunch of flying buddies coming together to put on a fantastic event can't fix.

I don't actually recall saying that.
Find the quote and I'll try and straighten out the spin you're putting on it.

But for now:
- Disney isn't 'society' it is a corporation.
- Nothing is universal
- I'll happily relax, but not wholly recant, on the 'for any other reason' since Disney does tend to put family values - as they see them - fairly high on their list of priorities. (restricting access to Disney Theme Parks to 'the right kind of people' as an example)
