First up its the sell me the RTR now guys who keep the local hobby stores in business... Sorry but most of the guys who would walk into a shop and order a Race roller with the 2 grand worth of extras for it typically end up buying online to save the few extra bucks a hobby shop has to charge extra for to cover the helping of the customer.. I mean when i watch someone like Dave Henry spend 3 hours talking to a customer about different models and why each one is good of its application.. his time has to compensated some how right.

And second, if your not a person who is not willing to help someone new be it they are lazy, stupid or just does not get it.. then maybe you are in the wrong hobby! Or you need to start wearing a shirt that says "I'm too good for you, too smart for you and don't even bother asking me why"

I am soo very glad i can show up at a race, or a track on a practice evening and find people like the sprucewood team, Caster team, Mugen team and many more who are willing to stop what they are doing and help you out, answer any question regardless of the dumb factor..

Someone like Kevin honesty is scary at a track when you don't know him.. Kind of nerve racking to aproach.. but man once you introduce yourself and get past his exterior he is an awesome guy.. and Chewy the same

I think this hobby needs more people like guys like that, and less egotistical aholes who just ruin it for everyone..

So you agree with me?

I'm all for helping the newbie. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I "walk the talk" in that regard.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about: (BTW something similar actually happened on this site, I've changed the context a bit to avoid embarrassing the person involved.)

Guy comes on the site asking where he can buy "X". In less than 5 seconds I do a Google search for the item name + the town where the guy lives (from his profile info on his post) and voila, I have the answer.

Please explain to me why he or she couldn't have done the same for his or her self????

Websites like this one contain tons of good info.......most times the answers are already there..... If people would only take the initiative to search/research........

First thanks for taking the time to put your opinion on here Narly 1 and you hit the nail on the head with your statement. I`m fairly new to this hobby but there`s nothing more satisfying then helping someone out, i enjoy watching and helping just as much as i do racing. Last weekend at Action, buggy and truggy A mains i pitted and had a blast.

Now, I'm not a racer by any means, but I can say that I've been involved in this hobby over 20 years, and I love it. I've seen up's, and down's, and oddly enough, right now I'm noticing a lot of people getting into R/C, or at least showing interest in it.

One note to mention, and it's not necessarily a good one... Since I decided to get more involved in R/C, I came across this site (just a couple months ago) and I've noticed more attitude here than on any of the other online forums I subscribe to. Now, my primary hobby is Real cars, you know, V8 muscle... I can honestly say that muscle-car guys are the best. It's a great hobby, family oriented, and the people you meet are ALWAYS helpful, and friendly both online, and in person. Whether you're a noob, or the most experienced guy out there, car guys rock!

I gravitated towards this site because I was looking to possibly start racing this summer... I'm still undecided, but I can say without doubt that my time on this site has more slowed my enthusiasm to race as opposed to accellerate it.

Don't get me wrong, there are some cool dudes here, Narly 1 is constantly posting responses that really show a good character in him. There are many others (who's names need not be mentioned... you know who you are!) that seem to have nothing good to say... pity... And to those who just read posts, and don't respond... C'mon, RESPOND already! that's what the site is for! Information is power, right?!?! Or are you simply ignoring "noob" type questions???

All in all, I think there's a good thing going here, but the people involved really need to make it happen. We should all be doing our part to support our hobby, and the people that make it so enjoyable.

I will respond (I have hesitated quite a while now) ... and I will try to keep it positive (may surprise some) ... I love this hobby and have a lot of fun and have found many new friends (yes there are knobs but they are everywhere) ... I was lead away from GLORCS towards club racing as I was pretty much told by some, and to be honest got the feeling on my own ... that the GLORC series was for the "elite" ... never saw that as being very progressive but hey ... too old to argue ... I have found club racing (both Hardcore and DORC) and I am more than happy being average ... ... now if only my new Mspec would get here

+1, I enjoy this hobby very much, too bad I lack the time to improve my skills, I enjoy racing all kinds, and at the GLORCS and RC-PRO Canada, most I say most people are very helpfully, but you do get the ones that think they are the elite??????, give you attitude and brag about there "sponsor". WE ARE ALL BIG GROWN MAN PLAYING WITH TOYS. and yes Club racing is picking up specially at hardcore due to the ELITE few that run in the GLORCS an RC-PRO Canada, although RC-PRO in the USA is much better.

What do you mean by "Lead Away..."?

As in you tried you're hand at it, caught the vibe & left?
Or you caught the vibe & didn't bother trying?

what ever you do, don't let the forums dictate whether you go racing or not bud. The atmosphere is always more tense online than it is at the races. Regardless of who says what, or who thinks what about who, the racing is the 'common denominator' and everyone always has a good time out there, regardless of the venue.

From 'forum standards', this past weekend should have been a disaster at ftr. There was a smaller than usual group of racers there, and some that were there would come across as arch rivals on the forums. Everyone had a good time on and off the track, and at night, we all had fun!!!

I'd hate like hell to see anyone miss out on racing because of the forums. Consider it entertainment to watch people throw rocks at each other, because 90% of the time, when the racing starts, all of the flame wars take a very distant back seat. Hope to see you out soon!!!!

micheal, i appreciate your kind words bud, but really hope nobody ever feels that way about approaching me. I'm just a giant kid playing with my toy cars like everyone else. Sure there's some seriousness in it for me, but that's just my competitiveness coming out. I think we all have some of that in us. If we didn't, we would all just be down at zellers smokin' the tires off our cars right? Lol... Feel free to come see me any time you need anything man. This hobby/sport is as much about people as it is about racing.

As for chewy...you may want to take a closer look!!! :d jk

i understand what your saying, but get out and have some fun man! That's what it's all about.

I'm not sure what it was exactly that happened to make people think that way about glorcs, but i can assure you of one thing. It's no different than any other race series. Club racing included. In fact, if you didn't know any better, you'd swear the hardcore sunday series was a glorcs race. The registrations are all but identical, and the formats are identical.

I started racing 1/8 off-road in the glorcs series, and am volunteering my time to the series now. I loved everything about it, and met everyone i know in that series. Things have changed over time, but the one thing that will never change is the people. We are all there for the same reason...to have fun!

Come check out the glorcs race at hardcore on august 13th-15th and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
