BEC or auto cutoff

I am moving over to electric from gliders. I have a question on battery elimination circuit versus cutoffs. From reading on the Net some articles have confused me (not hard). My question is are these options to a type of ESC, which is better in an electric glider where I am only concerned with reaching altitiude?

ESC

Get the ESC you'll like the option of ticking the motor over as required to get the glider in exactly where you want to land. The ESC costs have also dropped lately to the point where the auto-cutoff isn't hardly worth the bother. I've got both and haven't used the auto-cutoff in years.
