I am not on here much but have I missed something or what? A search of internet has resulted in no more info. Anybody have more info. It seems to me that if MAAC is going to issue this kind of notice then they should include specific information, and sites where these reports are coming from.

I know I spoke to Horizon regarding using lithium batteries in my JR 10X transmitters and they did not recommend it all due to the maximum voltage issues with lithiums as opposed to nicads and Nimh's....this isn't hard to research, call the service department that services your brand of radio and they will let you know very shortly what the story is....Ron

withdrawn, no point creating a bigger can of worms then this subject already is.
I will just say, that I use lipo in 2 DX7's for 2 years with no ill effects, bigger problems are users and use and handling of lipos in this application.

Lipos are all I've used in my Tx's for for the last 5-6 years. Never an issue. But I use Futaba.

The purpose of the MAAC advisory is to keep you informed and protect you from accidentally frying your radio. This is especially useful to the uninformed who might want to make the switch without doing any research.

Some guys are saying they need to use a resistor or a diode to drop the lipo voltage just a smidgeon to prevent over-voltage from burning out their radios.

This has been discussed at length in several threads in the Electronics section of RCC. A search there will yield some interesting and informative discussions on this matter. Very do-able and (apparently) safe when done in this matter.

Acutally ...you should not be using lipo's in jr or spectrum radio's .All electronic parts have low and high voltage specs .Running your jr gear at the high end specs ...12v plus can cause parts to fail in time.This is no different than running your car around in first gear with your foot to the floor wondering why the engine is used up after only 2 months ...seems crazy doesn't it ? I use jr ...wouldn't think of it .

IMO.... running a lipo in the tx when the manufactuer says no way ....thats just crazy .I really hope no one crashes their heli/plane because of this then blames it on bad quality from JR/Spectrum. I have a 12xmv that uses a 1500nimh ..runs for hours before it needs charging ....how much run time do we need ??

I've been using a Lipo in my Dx7 for almost 1 1/2 years, and so far no issues. When the lipo is fully charged, the battery meter reads 11.7v Doesn't go over 12v at all.
