Anyone float flying yet?

We finally got some snow & it has lots of moisture in it! So I am impatiently watching the slough out back grow & the ice melt into something that could be big enough to float fly on! Getting a little warmer every day... thumbs are getting itchy... maybe this weekend!

Will I be the first to wet the floats this year or has someone else beat me?

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

O r has anyone quit float flying yet. I found floats great to fly off fresh soft snow. The spring crust eats them up pretty quick though. The extra flotation in powder shure helps. Looking forward to summer to try a couple out on unfrozen water. Phil

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Well guys
Very new to the hobby but since I started last fall I have become a flying and crashing fanatic. Built my first Balsa wood plane in the 60's, and got my first rc plane when I turned 56, oh well better late than never.
I have been on skis here at Long Lake all winter and I'm also waiting for the ice to melt. The snow was gone from the ice up untill last week so I had an opportunity to fly my Icon off the water covered ice, for a couple of days till the snow hit again. So back to the skis.
I'm planing on putting floats on the Cub, and I have the Icon so I'm beating the drums for the warm weather to hit.
See you on the shore
Don

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Welcome to RC Canada roadtech! Congrats on being the first to get the floats wet this season! I have been trying to get out but between work & the wind it just hasn't come together yet. I thought I could get out first thing this morning but it was -8 last night & by the time the sun melts the ice the forecast NW wind will have come up!

Maybe tomorrow?

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Good Day, Thanks O.P.R.N. I have been introduced to the wind several times over the winter. I, like many started my flying apprenticeship with the Parkzone cub. I needed skis, so that was an easy install. So off to the beach, took off into the wind like I was told, straight up, and straight down!! Oh well, tried again it worked, I'm now flying, straight into the neighbours boat lift. Boy are those Cubs tough. Anyways, I came back the next day when it was calm and had a great experience and have been hooked ever since. I still crash, but I crash way smoother.
I know this is nothing to do with float flying, but the Cub will get them as soon as the ice softens.
See you on the shore
Don

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Once you have flown off of the water you will never go back to wimmin'! Just kidding!

Not sure where Long Lake Alberta is but I do work often close to Long Lake Saskatewan.

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Well, if you have heard of Fort Mc murray it's not close to that , but it is on the way, Long lake is a Prov. Park rec. area and is 10 minutes south of down town Boyle on Secondary hwy 881. It's in a beautiful valley setting, as the name applies, it's 13 km long and about 1 km wide. We live at the north end in a bay area that will now be my personal flying port.
See you on the shore

Re: Anyone float flying yet?

Welcome Don. Yes long lake is a nice lake, just don't go on a long weekend if you want quiet time lol. It was really good fishing too, I don't know if that is still the case.
