Dissapointment.

I flew today in a place that I have wanted to fly for a while. It's a frozen lake next to a Lafarge plant. As far as I know they carve out the mountain for it's limestone content but I don't know the details. Anyway, it was my first attempt at taking pictures at a target...instead of just flying around and shooting.

I flew until my battery was pretty much done. After being up for 15 minutes I was sure that I had some great shots. After a perfect landing, I saw to my horror that the camera had shifted and was pointing straight up...sure enough I had 200 pictures of sky. (Jerry...I was flying the EZ* so I wasn't using your mount...if I was, there would be no problem with the camera).

I took quick read of the battery and figured I had enough for one more quick flight. The pictures are ok but not great. There is some blur from shooting with the motor on. The biggest thing I learned today that I really need practice at aiming at a target as most of my shots were way off the mark. They are also not high enough...they almost look like I was standing on a ladder.

I'm bummed, but think this was a good learning experience...more practice is needed!

Re: Dissapointment.

Hey Mark, the pictures are a great base, a few minutes in photoshop and they will be amazing, I like the industrial subject. I guess a mini camera set parallel with the main camera with downlink, and small LCD screen on the transmitter would make aiming a breeze. Bun now I am getting complicated.

Re: Dissapointment.

Thanks Dan....you're right though. Either I get way better at aiming or I will have to get more complicated. I have a feeling that with a downlink I could come down with 10 great pictures instead of 200 so so ones.

Re: Dissapointment.

Hey, that's the plant at Exshaw, looking across Lac des Arcs, isn't it?
I've driven past there on the Trans Canada many times.

Re: Dissapointment.

This is on the way to Banff I think,I was there 4 days ago on vacation.
I was going to do some Fpv of this area but a crash 1 day before the vacation prevented that. It was torture looking at the mountains thinking what the flights would have been like, But these pics ease some of the pain keep up the good work !

Re: Dissapointment.

Take a a high res image wide lens and fix the tilt an crop to size.
(maybe glue some more sky on the top)
voila! almost professional framing!

Re: Dissapointment.

Thanks for the touch ups guys. I need to make sure my camera is aimed more down, for a higher altitude shots and to shoot with the motor off...the images aren't as crisp as I would like.

Re: Dissapointment.

Looks just like the plant I went by on my way for lunch in Banff many times. Thanks for the reminder to head into Alberta one of these days!
Not a bad shot at all.
