Re: os 160 twin

My glow drivers will not supply enough power to light two plugs. I use two separate drivers, it makes the engine a lot easier to start.

I agree. on my Saito 90 Flat-Twin, one glow on a Y harness wont work if you use a NiCad starter. You CAN use a Y harness with a power panel that has a meter and a potentiometer for increasing the voltage until the meter reads in the green again. Then it will start. The only danger is if you blow 1 plug, the over voltage will then blow the second plug.

I resorted to 2 separate Nicad Glow drivers, one on each side. Easier and less headaches.

Re: os 160 twin

I am using an ASP twin (OS clone). I use a "Y" harness running through a EMS/JOMAR glow driver and 2 onboard recharable C cell batteries wired in parallel in series with an external glow plug port. The glow driver is coupled to the throttle and turns the glow plugs on at about the 1/4 throttle position (adjustable). This gives it a very smooth idle. It also turns on an off with the power switch on the plane.

Hope this helps

Re: os 160 twin

I have had a bit of time working with these twins, and they will start pretty good with just a single plug lit, on one cyl, and then switch the glo-driver to the dead cyl and it fires right away, and runs on 2.

Re: os 160 twin

If you use lead wires from a power panel, as I do, you simply clip one onto one plug and the other onto the other plug - center contact in each case.

Both plugs will be lit since you have established a circuit and off you go. Very simple and nothing extra to get or do.

You could also use this method with a single cyliner dual plug head, as on the very old OS 80 and a few Merco 60s.

I have done this as well, with the O.S. 300, and other twins as well. It does work just fine!

I tried this on a couple of plugs on my work bench. Because it is DC current, one plug gets really bright and the other gets only slightly warm.

Ac or dc, it would not matter. Unless both plugs have the exact same resistance, one will have a greater voltage drop across it than the other, and glow brighter.
